Anthropic releases Claude Sonnet 5.5 at the same price, more than 30% faster

Anthropic has released Claude Sonnet 5.5, the second model in its Claude 5.5 family.

Sonnet 5.5 is positioned as a faster, lower-cost complement to Opus 5.5, which is built for complex work that calls for careful judgment. Anthropic says Sonnet 5.5 is strongest at well-scoped everyday tasks, fixing bugs, and producing polished documents, slides and spreadsheets.

Pricing is unchanged from Sonnet 5 at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. Because it typically needs far fewer tokens for the same work, Anthropic's testing found it costs up to 30% less per task than its predecessor. It also generates output more than 30% faster than Sonnet 5.

On Terminal-Bench 4.0, an agentic coding evaluation, Sonnet 5.5 scores 70.6%, up from Sonnet 5's 10.3%. Anthropic adds that Opus 5.5 remains clearly stronger at complex, open-ended work that requires sustained judgment.

With cybersecurity capabilities now comparable to Opus 5, Sonnet 5.5 is the first Sonnet model to launch with cyber safeguards like those on Anthropic's most capable models. Higher-risk cybersecurity tasks fall back to Sonnet 5.

Sonnet 5.5 is available on all platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Claude Haiku 5.5, aimed at high-volume use, is due to join the family in the coming weeks.

Meta launches Meta Enterprise Platform, hiring MongoDB's CEO to run it

Meta has launched Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business that sells its AI to companies.

Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg called it "the next major pillar" of Meta's business. The initial focus is on bringing Meta's full technology stack, including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code, to businesses and developers.

The effort is led by Chirantan "CJ" Desai, who was CEO and president of MongoDB. He joins as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting directly to Zuckerberg. Before MongoDB, Desai led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as president and COO.

According to TechCrunch, MongoDB shares fell more than 17% on news of his sudden departure. MongoDB has named Dev Ittycheria, its former chief executive, as interim CEO.

NVIDIA unveils the Open Agent Safety Platform to watch AI agents from outside

NVIDIA has announced the Open Agent Safety Platform, a set of tools that controls and monitors AI agents from outside the model.

The platform has two parts. OpenShell, open-source software, draws a runtime boundary around an agent, tracing every action and enforcing policy as it runs on NVIDIA Vera CPUs. It can be extended to third-party compute platforms, including those from Arm and Intel.

Sentry is a reference design for an out-of-band watchdog that runs on NVIDIA BlueField-4 data processing units. It watches agent behavior from a processor separate from the CPUs and GPUs the agent runs on, and quarantines agents that try to move outside their boundaries in milliseconds.

NVIDIA says the recent security incidents share a pattern: the agent got around security controls at the application layer to finish its assigned task. Chief executive Jensen Huang told CNBC that when you deploy an agent, no matter how smart, "the first thing you do is to take away all of its rights."

More than 100 organizations are working with the platform's technologies, including Anthropic, Microsoft, SAP, Hugging Face and JPMorganChase. Anthropic is integrating its Claude Managed Agents with OpenShell and BlueField.
